Fernando Alonso finished off the race for the #8 Toyota team taking a debut victory in his first ever World Endurance Championship race. It marks the first win for the Spaniard since 2013.
It was a close fight towards the end of the race after a late safety car allowed the sister Toyota to catch back up with the leader.
With the #7 Toyota, driven by Mike Conway, coming back at Alonso in the final stages, he handled the traffic well and the Spaniard held his nerve and managed the final few laps comfortably to take the chequered flag in his first
WEC race.
Both Toyota's won by over two laps compared to the rest of the field and it sets them up well for the all-important Le Mans 24 hours next month. Alonso will be keen to replicate his performance at
Spa-Francorchamps to take victory in France and complete the second phase of his triple crown goal.
The win was the first for Alonso since the 2013 Spanish Grand Prix
