Antonio Giovinazzi put pen-to-paper on a new contract with
Alfa Romeo Racing last week and the Italian driver has described the new one-year extension as a "big confidence boost" going into the
Brazilian Grand Prix this weekend.
Points-wise, Giovinazzi hasn't had the best of rookie Formula 1 seasons, with just four to his name; only above both
Williams drivers in the drivers' standings.
However, the second half of the season has brought clear improvement to the Italian's performances and this is something that has been rewarded with a new contract from Alfa Romeo, with the 25-year-old set to partner veteran
Kimi Raikkonen again next season.
Giovinazzi hasn't scored a point since September's
Singapore Grand Prix, and with three P14 finishes on the bounce, he will be eager to push the top 10 at Interlagos.
"I am really looking forward to racing in Interlagos. It is a special track, one forever linked with (Ayrton) Senna and with so much Formula One history," Giovinazzi said.
"The renewal of my contract is a big confidence boost and I cannot wait to repay the faith the team has shown in me. We have made some big steps forward in the last few races and getting back into the points would be the right reward for all of our hard work."
