The
Formula 1 teams are busy getting the teams for next year together. Where several teams are opting for the same drivers as this year, Aston Martin tried to come up with a surprise.
According to
Auto, Motor und Sport, the formation made an attempt to add
Fernando Alonso to the team. The Spaniard has been racing in
Formula 1 again since this year and is performing excellently at Alpine. The plan was to further strengthen the Aston Martin team with Alonso, but the Spaniard politely declined the offer.
Therefore, it seems that Aston Martin will continue with
Sebastian Vettel next season.
"We have a one-plus-one contract," team boss
Otmar Szafnauer told the medium.
"In it, there are certain dates by which we have to make a decision. But the deadline has not been reached yet. There is a timeframe in which we want to meet. That's not far off. We love Sebastian and he loves us. Now we have to talk about how we will move forward next year."Good season from Alonso
Alonso has scored 38 points for Alpine so far this season, leaving him four points short of
Esteban Ocon. Vettel is in twelfth place with 35 points gained.
It is very obvious that Lawrence wants to have a world champion in the team for marketing purposes.
That is why Seb was snapped up immediately last year when he was dropped by Ferrari.
I am sure Lance is not going anywhere, so they see more talents and potential in Alonso compared to Seb, that’s why they are having talks with him.
There are no other ex WDC available on the current grid for them to approach as most of the other drivers have been in the sport for less than 7 years and only 2 drivers (one of them retired) have been been winning in that time.
