Valtteri Bottas says he is currently happy with how Mercedes have allowed both of their drivers to compete this season. Mercedes have openly said that they allow both drivers to compete against each other rather than use a number one and number two driver.
After an initially difficult first year with the reigning champions, there had been calls for Bottas to be made a second driver alike to that of Kimi Raikkonen to Sebastian Vettel. However, the Finn has made progress this season and is currently happy to receive equal treatment as his teammate.
"We had a chat with the team and we both expected performance gains compared to last year, this being my second season with the team, being on the pace everywhere and in how I would perform in general," said Bottas.
"For the moment I've been meeting those targets, both for the team and for me, but that is no magic number, no fixed target."
As for who his teammate might be next season, Bottas is hoping the status-quo is maintained and that Hamilton stays beyond the current season.
"Of course, it would be nice that Lewis stays too, because I enjoy working with him," he said.
"The fact that he has won four championships and me none pushes me to outdo myself.
"We work well together and that's why I would rather stay with Lewis on this team."
