Helmut Marko was very critical of the stewards on Sunday evening. According to the
Red Bull Racing advisor, the stewards don't act straightforward, which put
Max Verstappen at a disadvantage this season.
Martin Brundle disagrees.
The former
Formula 1 driver believes that the race committee does not have an easy job. He, therefore, advises
Michael Masi to quickly gather a number of people alongside him.
"You have to make decisions quickly. Herbie Blash was Charlie Whiting's, right-hand man. Michael Masi needs a few more people," he states in conversation with
Speedweek.com. "But at some point, a referee makes a decision and you have to give him the respect."Race control in Abu Dhabi
Whereas the race control interfered several times in recent weeks by giving Verstappen and
Lewis Hamilton penalties, this was not the case in Abu Dhabi. The two drivers collided directly on the first lap, but the stewards said there was nothing wrong.
At the end of the race, they made a remarkable decision by applying the safety car regulations differently than usual. Mercedes decided after the race to get to the bottom of it.
