Carlos Sainz says his grid has ruined his weekend ahead of the
Austrian Grand Prix. The Spaniard picks up the penalty for switching to the new
Renault engine which tips him over the three engine limit
Formula 1 has in place.
Unsurprisingly, Sainz is upset with the penalty. It comes as
McLaren show good form with positive results in France and in the Friday practice sessions this weekend. In FP2, Sainz finished in P5 despite focusing on the longer runs.
“We had a good pace on Friday on Friday. We didn't try to be fast because we are preparing the car for the long runs on Friday," Sainz tells Motorsport.
"If we try a fast lap, the speed is there. This makes me very disappointed because I have that grid penalty. I am surprised that I am not happy with the speed. It could be such a nice weekend without the penalty."
