Earlier on Saturday of the
Canadian Grand Prix,
Carlos Sainz got away with it, but now the
Ferrari driver has received a grid penalty from
F1 race control. The Spaniard will be moved back three places on the grid.
Sainz now does have grid penalty
With that, Sainz will still start behind his teammate
Charles Leclerc. Sainz was already warned during FP3. The driver then drove in
Alexander Albon 's way. The stewards called him in, but decided not to give him a penalty. During qualifying, Sainz got in the way again and it cost him dearly.
The
Ferrari driver almost stopped before the last chicane before start/finish and drove in the middle of the road.
Pierre Gasly who arrived on a fast lap at high speed had to swerve hard to avoid a crash. Sainz was penalised for his action and was moved back three places on the grid to P11 from P8. Sainz who thus beat his teammate will still start behind Leclerc for Sunday's race.
