Eddie Jordan no longer has confidence in
Lewis Hamilton and
Fernando Alonso. According to the Irishman, the world champions of yesteryear no longer have enough to beat
Max Verstappen. Jordan prefers to put his money on young talents.
Lewis Hamilton signed another new contract with Mercedes in 2023, keeping the Briton linked to the German racing team until 2025. Hamilton is still hoping to win his eighth world title in
F1 after missing out in 2021.
Toto Wolff has great faith in his driver, but
Eddie Jordan is less comfortable with the seven-time world champion.
Who Jordan chooses if Verstappen is not available
"If I had a top team now and didn't get Max, there would only be one driver pairing that would be able to take on the fight with Verstappen: Charles Leclerc and, as a teammate, Lando Norris," the former team boss told
F1-insider.com. In doing so, Jordan contradicts precisely what
Helmut Marko has said, who actually accuses Norris and Leclerc of not being consistent enough.
However, Jordan chooses the young talents because he no longer trusts the 'old guard'. "
I simply no longer trust Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso, well-deserved champions, to be able to keep up with Verstappen because of their advanced age," said the former owner of his own F1 team.
