The end of the Formula One season is already three weeks away, yet the position of
Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes has remained the same. Even the new
FIA president
Mohammed Ben Sulayem has not yet had contact with the seven-time world champion.
Ben Sulayem has been hired as the new president to succeed Jean Todt a week after the end of the season. In that short time, he has already had to look at several issues, including the question of whether Hamilton will receive a penalty for not showing up at the
FIA gala.
The seven-time world champion recently received a message from the new president, but he has not yet responded. Ben Sulayem does understand that:
"I don't think he's 100% ready to talk about what happened yet, but I understand his position. It's not about punishing a driver or a team, it's about enforcing the rules", he tells
La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Disappointment was not to be missed
The sadness and disappointment from the German team and the 36-year-old driver were evident after the
Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. It was quiet for a while on the
social media of the German team. The Mercedes driver still hasn't reacted on
social media and unfollowed everyone on Instagram. It seems like the disappointment is indeed still there.
