Sebastian Vettel came out on top of FP3 in Shanghai on Saturday, with Kimi Raikkonen completing the
Ferrari one-two, as Daniel Ricciardo suffered a spectacular engine problem in his RB14.
Sebastian Vettel has shown what he's got on the early Saturday session before qualifying, overtaking his teammate Raikkonen in the final sector of the lap to take P1. Vettel was closely followed by his teammate but had almost half a second difference.
Meanwhile, more engine troubles for Red Bull. It's only the third race weekend of the season and the Bulls have already had multiple reliability issues, and it only got worse as Ricciardo's RB14 was spitting smoke and fire halfway through the session, causing a virtual safety car. Will Ricciardo be able to make qualifying, or will the Aussie have to start from the pit?
Meanwhile, his teammate Max Verstappen split the two Mercedes cars up as he came fourth, with Bottas in front of him and FP1 and FP2 pace-setter Lewis Hamilton behind him in fifth. However, Verstappen too noticed that something was wrong with his engine, communicating on the team radio that it doesn't feel right everytime he pushes. Another nightmare weekend for Red Bull looms.
As for the rest of the field, it was Kevin Magnussen who took advantage of Ricciardo's exit the most as the Dane took sixth, 1.3 seconds off the pace that Vettel set. He was closely followed by both Force India cars, who seem to have found some more pace in the VJM11 since the start of the season. Further down the table. Sergey Sirotkin surprisingly finished in tenth in his Williams car, with the Russian rookie showcasing his skills on the
Shanghai International Circuit. Would he actually be able to make it to Q3, with the way Williams has(n't) been performing or was this just a fluke?
Also worthy of pointing out is that both McLaren cars, although they weren't able to finish in the top ten, did finish above both Toro Rosso cars, something that we're sure they're quite pleased with.
