After finishing tenth in the
Russian Grand Prix,
Renault driver
Nico Hülkenberg was left frustrated despite scoring a point, as the German thinks a lot of things went against the team on Sunday.
Both Hülkenberg and his teammate
Daniel Ricciardo qualified in the top ten but Hülkenberg got away slowly, losing track position on the run to turn one.
The Virtual Safety Car caused by
Sebastian Vettel's retirement then came at an unfortunate time for Renault, with Hülkenberg already having pitted unlike the drivers around him, giving him a disadvantage.
Eventually, he dropped to tenth, which is three places below his starting position even though Vettel retired.
“It was a frustrating race as the car deserved to be better than tenth," the 31-year-old said.
"Everything that could go wrong seemed to go wrong today: a poor start, a slow pit-stop and an unfortunate VSC timing.
"It’s disappointing as the potential was there for a better result. I felt comfortable in the car all weekend, and it had been fairly solid, so to leave with one point is a little frustrating.
"The midfield is bunched up and it’s going to be like that for the rest of the season. It’ll be nip and tuck throughout and we need to ensure we’re getting the maximum from races.”
