After impressing the world at pre-season testing in Barcelona, Haas boss
Guenther Steiner has said that he wants to end fourth this season in the constructors' championship, or 'best of the rest' after the 'big three' of Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull Racing.
"We want to be [fourth]," said Steiner when asked about it by RACER. "We should be able to be in it at least, and from there we might take it."
Haas, who are heading into their third season in the Formula One, have finished eighth in their first two years, but see no reason why they shouldn't be able to finish much higher this year round.
"Last year we finished eighth, but we were very close to getting sixth," Steiner explained. "There were eight points between us and sixth. That's not great by not a disaster either. You win some, you lose some."
The field should be a lot more even this year says the team boss, which is a sentiment shared by many others.
"There's no weak teams anymore. It's one of the most competitive seasons in F1 you'll see in a long time. The first three are in a different zone, but after that it's very close."
"It's going to be tough. I'm not going to say "We'll do that easily for you Gene!" because it's a high expectation. As an owner, however, he's in the position to be demanding of his staff. We need to be ambitious; if you aren't in this sport, you won't get anything done."
