Lewis Hamilton might be ahead in the drivers' championship, but the four-time champion still uses his off time in August to study the things he can do better on and off the track, he has revealed.

Hamilton was trailing Sebastian Vettel for portions of the season, but back-to-back wins in Germany and Hungary have seen the Briton take a 24-point lead over the German again, along with Mercedes overtaking Ferrari again in the constructors' championship.

However, Hamilton does realize that Mercedes will need to step up if they want to keep the Italians behind them, as a recent spike in performance from them suggests that they now have the best car rather than Mercedes.

“As I said before, I think Ferrari has had a slightly better package but we’ve delivered ours better and hopefully that will make the difference," Hamilton said according to Read Motorsport.

“Hopefully, in this second part of the season, we will be able to upgrade our package so it’s a little bit stronger than theirs."

When talking about his summer break, Hamilton suggested that he will not only be relaxing by the pool on his holiday.

“Each year you do something different in your break,” he explained.

“You use and conserve your energy in a different way.

"I think I’ve got a good setup generally though this break.

"The race physically I am good but there’s always areas you can improve, there’s always things you can improve on.

“I am not going to say what they are but I am going to be working on some of those things through this break.

"There’s still going to be some studying."
