Max Verstappen and
Lewis Hamilton arrive at Silverstone in the middle of an immense title fight. Mercedes have brought an update this weekend, but Hamilton doesn't want to make that upgrade seem bigger than it is. Verstappen on the other hand seems to have arrived in England with a lot of confidence.
Verstappen and Hamilton are fighting for the world title this year, and as Red Bull and Mercedes now have to fight each other, every update counts. Mercedes will now introduce their latest update, but Hamilton isn't very enthusiastic about it.
Update from Mercedes
"He's trying to play down the size of the package they are bringing here. He was also suggesting that Red Bull will bring some as well. If this is their last package, then Mercedes are a team that can maximise the package they've got so that's a performance gain," says Lawrence Barretto in the
Weekend Warm-Up.
His colleague, Melissa Nathoo, went to see Verstappen, who expressed much more confidence than Lewis. "The guy [Verstappen], is on incredible form. We're seeing a more mature Max than we've ever seen before. You can't fault his driving, he deserves to be where he is. He is feeling confident coming into Silverstone," said the Formula1.com reporter.
Any smart thinker would be cautious of assuming that the upgrades, with little or no time to test... in a completely new introduction of race format... guarantees a win... that is not lack of confidence....
It was clearly stated by Hamilton himself that were looking at an upgrade package that produces 30 to 40 points of downforce or 4-6 tenths per lap.
Where is the downplay?
What is obvious, is that Lawrence Barretto reaching for sensationalized headlines, rookie.
Trying to downplay it? That's far wiser and safer than up-playing it only not to win the race.
He's managing his expectations.
