Everyone knows that the teams don't show everything yet during the test days. Nevertheless, former Formula 1 driver Gerhard Berger is impressed with Red Bull Racing, but Mercedes also looks spectacular according to the Austrian.

This coming weekend we will find out where the teams actually stand during qualifying for the Bahrain Grand Prix. Nevertheless, Helmut Marko already sounded enthusiastic about Red Bull's updates after the test days in Bahrain and the team would now be on par with Ferrari.

Berger expects a lot from Red Bull. To defend Max Verstappen's world title, the RB18 will have to perform well with the new regulations, but the teams are expected to be much closer. "I have high hopes when it comes to Red Bull Racing, because I see that Helmut Marko walks around with a smile on his face all the time," Berger tells Servus TV.

'Red Bull will drive at the front'

"I think they already know at Red Bull Racing that the car is nice to drive. I think Red Bull will drive at the front," the former F1 driver continues. The team drove many miles during the test days and had few problems.

Mercedes appeared on the track during the second week of testing in Bahrain with very distinctive sidepods. "That's an extreme approach from Mercedes. We will have to see if it works, especially in hot temperatures, but it looks very spectacular."

Let's all pray that it's not the fastest.on the grid..lest RB tarnish max's reputation if he should win...never mind the 7 years of perfect opportunity he recklessly threw away...could be 7 solid championships and one dodgy o one by now !

Dang, you need to ring your bell a little bit louder to reality! From 2016-2019 RB were 3rd fastest behind Ferrari and obviously Mercedes were in a different realm to the rest. In 2020 RB might have passed Ferrari into 2nd fastest but Bottas ended 2nd in the WDC- that’s right Bottas which should tell you that Mercedes were way far superior to anyone. A Mercedes driver only ended out of the top 2 only twice in 8yrs which was the average Bottas. Without Lewis, Rosberg would be a 3xWDC and Bottas and 2xWDC - that is dominance that the sport has never seen over such a long period! Now that the cars are closer Lewis might still have a chance of winning again but he will not be able to Max Again unless Mercedes is as dominant as it was from 2014-2020.

Winning in arguably the fastest car is the greatest sin in f1....max doesnt need the fastest car....now how many times have I read that on these forums ? I am just looking out for your guys reputation....we dont want another Vettel phase....

It depends, if you have a pairing of Lewis and Max in a car that is dominant - now that would be something special just like it was when Senna and Prost teamed up at McLaren late 80’s and also when Alonso and Lewis teamed at McLaren in 2007. The last thing I would want is a similar situation we had in the last era where one team is just way superior to the next and closing that gap seems improbable for way too long. Vettel’s situation is very sad and unfortunate because as good as he was in a dominant car he lacks the natural ability and talent to compete in a car that is not that dominant but competitive.

Every driver needs competitive(performance gap must be within 2-3 tens) car in order to win. Don't confuse competitive with dominant. Max has only had a competitive car for last season.
