Lewis Hamilton suggested before the Barcelona race that Red Bull had put a new, 'bendy' rear wing on the car, which would have allowed
Max Verstappen to gain three tenths on the straight. In doing so he may be hoping the
FIA will look at the part, but
Red Bull Racing insists the wing is completely legal.
Red Bull used a rear wing with more downforce during Friday's free practice, but switched back to the one they used in previous races on Saturday. The rules for this are strict, as
Formula 1 teams have long been trying to push the boundaries with aero elasticity. By using a flexible rear wing the top speed could increase. However, according to the
FIA rules it is not allowed to be too flexible.
Horner reacts to Hamilton's comments
Christian Horner has responded to Hamilton's comments, also stating that Toto Wolff has spoken to him about the design. However, he insists that the FIA has approved the part.
"I have seen the comments,
" Horner said
to Sky, quoted by
Motorsport.com.
"The cars are scrutineered thoroughly, and there's pull back tests, and all kinds of different tests it has to pass. The FIA are completely happy with the car, that it has passed all of those tests that are pretty stringent." "So I was surprised to see his comments on that. But it's something that Toto has mentioned to me previously. I doubt it was Lewis' opinion, so probably came from elsewhere," Horner said.
