Christian Horner has said that Max Verstappen's first drivers' title victory in 2021 for Red Bull was "the highlight of the team's history".
Verstappen did battle with Lewis Hamilton in one of the greatest title battles that the sport has ever seen, with the then-Mercedes driver searching for the record-breaking eighth world title.
The nail-biting season went down to the final event of the campaign at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, and it was the Dutchman who was able to make a last-lap move over the Brit to take the first of four consecutive titles.

Horner sees Verstappen increasing his world-class status every season

But for team boss Horner, he has seen Verstappen's sublime performances in Formula 1 continue, further strengthening his name in the history books of Formula One year by year.
"After he joined us as a teenager, we saw Max grow," started the British team boss, never regretting bringing the Dutchman into their team at a young age.
"We saw his development and his exceptional talent. So we just had to give him the tools to exploit that talent, for example by putting a competitive engine in the car," Horner continued, speaking in Formula 1 Magazine.
After 2021, Verstappen raced to titles in 202, 2023 and 2024, with his 2023 title being one of the most dominant seasons F1 has ever seen.

Horner still enjoys Verstappen's 2021 title

Since 2021, Verstappen has now delivered six world titles to the Austrian squad, including the four drivers' titles he has in his name. But, according to Horner, Verstappen's first title win, now four years ago, is still the one that sticks in the Red Bull Racing team principal's mind, calling that year one of 'the most iconic seasons in Formula 1'.
"It was like a heavyweight fight from the first round in Bahrain to 21 races later in Abu Dhabi. It was absolutely the highlight of our team history."
Then, the continued title and success came for the Dutchman: "This ensured that Max secured a place among the biggest names of the sport and strengthened that place every year. I also think he more than deserves it," Horner concluded.
