Renault's Nico Hulkenberg has received a five-place grid penalty after the German needed a gearbox change in Baku.
Hulkenberg was in his box for the final quarter of the last practice session earlier on Saturday with gearbox problems. Renault decided to pull the trigger and change the gearbox, which breaches regulation that every gearbox should last for six weekends. The standard penalty for breaking the rule is five places on the starting grid.
Hulkenberg has enjoyed a successful season so far, qualifying in seventh on all three occasions so far. His early retirement from FP3 meant that he only had the seventeenth best time on the grid. Teammate Carlos Sainz Junior was one place ahead in P16.
Hulkenberg also missed out on FP2 as Renault was making adjustments to his brakes and changing the plank under his floor.
"In FP2 I generally wasn't happy with how they felt or how they performed but that can happen sometimes," Hulkenberg said about the brakes.
"They were also used brakes, which probably explains the biggest part of it."
