Jos Verstappen will return to a Grand Prix weekend next week, as
De Telegraaf reports. During the annual Legends Parade for the
Austrian Grand Prix, the former teammate of
Michael Schumacher will be driving laps in a
McLaren, with all that happening in front of the Orange Army at the
Red Bull Ring.
Disappointing career
The father of two-time world champion
Max Verstappen was the most successful Dutch
Formula 1 driver before his son stepped into Red Bull. In his debut season, Jos earned two podiums, driving for Benetton in that year, with that year's world champion
Michael Schumacher his teammate on that occasion. Further on in his career, Verstappen suffered a lot of bad luck; in 1996, he completed only four out of the 16 races throughout the season. After another disappointing season in 2003, he decided to put an end to his career and focus on the career of Max, who now has 41 victories and two world championships to his name.
More former drivers present
So now "Jos the boss" will return during a Grand Prix weekend again. The 51-year-old Dutchman will drive around the Spielberg circuit in a 1972 M8F, which was active in the US CanAm Series. Besides Verstappen, other former drivers will also make their appearance during the Legends Parade. These include
David Coulthard, Juan Pablo Montoya, Mark Webber, as well as
Helmut Marko, who will be watching the track in Austria with Verstappen.
