Williams reserve driver Robert Kubica knows that he has been on an incredible journey to be back within touching distance of a Formula One race seat but knows he still must work hard to race at motorsport’s pinnacle once again.
The Pole was not expected to ever return to the sport after suffering career-threatening injuries in a rallying crash in 2011.
He tested with both Renault and Williams in 2017 and just missed out on a Williams race seat to Russian rookie Sergey Sirotkin.
Kubica said: “The work that started at the end of 2015 has paid off and here I find myself in better shape than I was back in the day.
“I can continue to fulfil my passion and take another important step towards racing in F1.
“I must work harder than before because everyone knows that I have limits but it turned out during the trials in Valencia that these limits aren’t significant enough to stop me from driving an F1 car at the highest level.
“That incredible feeling that I had after the first laps of the rack, I will remember them for the rest of my days.
“It’s probably the best moment of my life.”
