Ferrari had to deal with the embarrassing situation of not being able to compete with Red Bull Racing last weekend in Belgium. Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez drove gloriously to first and second place respectively, leaving the Italian team with homework to do after the race weekend. According to Charles Leclerc, this was useful, as he told on Sky Sports.
Leclerc was not happy with the situation after the Belgian Grand Prix. Behind the scenes he and his team looked for solutions to reduce the difference with Red Bull to such an extent that he could fight for victory again at Zandvoort. Leclerc expects to have succeeded.
"We are super motivated," Leclerc said confidently. "After Spa so much work to try and understand where the lack of pace came from. We have some directions to push in. We don't know if we have the final answers yet and hopefully we will have the final answers as quickly as possible."
The Monegasque doesn't rule out the possibility that part of the solution to the problem lies with Ferrari itself, but he feels it is important to point out that the team has been competitive all season. He expects the race at Spa-Francorchamps to be an exception.
"Maybe we took some wrong choices but I'm confident we understand now. They have been strong since the beginning of the year. They were very quick in the straights and corners at Spa. We have been strong everywhere apart from Spa."
