Charles Leclerc is having an excellent year at Ferrari this season. During the first two Grands Prix in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia he was on the podium both times with a first and second place. In Australia he hopes to compete for the front positions again.
Where the Monegasque in recent years had to be satisfied with a place in the sub top, this season is different. After two races he is top of the world championship standings and can therefore hope for the world title. Leclerc does not think this is the time to talk about it, however, as he revealed on the FIA press conference.
"Even though we are leading the championship, we have only gone two races so it's still pretty early to think about the Championship," Leclerc noted. "Imola will probably be a better track for our cars, here it is about taking as many points as we can and not do any big mistakes."
Although Leclerc seems to be competing for pole position again in Australia, the driver will not have an easy time of it according to Peter Windsor. Max Verstappen showed almost equal performances to Leclerc during the first two free practice sessions, so Saturday morning's qualification looks to be exciting.
