Liberty Media CEO Chase Carey has said that although it's too early to celebrate, he does think it's encouraging to see the progression the F1 has made since his company took over.
When talking to Gazzetta dello Sport, Carey explained that after a period of heavy criticism, people are now complimenting him regularly on the direction the Formula One is headed, as larger crowds are drawn to Grands Prix and the spectacle has increased.
"It's too early to celebrate," the American told the Italian outlet.
"Still, we're on the right path to improve the show both on and off the track.
"We've seen a couple of good races en the competition at the top is very close."
Results as an organization have changed too since the media company took over from Bernie Ecclestone. Carey explains that this was a catalyst for the rest of the sport to improve.
"It's interesting that people came up to me in Germany to tell me that it was more fun than two years ago," he continued.
"Partly because there were so many fans this time.
"You see, Formula 1 is about heroes who spark the imagination, kind of like in the movies," the former 21st Century Fox man added.
"You have strong brands and important teams, but in the end, it's all about the drivers as the main characters.
"Max Verstappen is a hero because of his driving skills, that's something that touches and inspires people."
We're not so sure about the whole film analogy there, but it's undeniable that the F1 has improved as a product since Liberty took over. We think that the larger crowds at the races are a testimony of that, more than anything else.
