Over the
Bahrain Grand Prix weekend,
Sergio Perez announced that he will host a press conference on Monday evening. Presumably, he will bring news about his future in
Formula 1, as he does not yet have a contract for 2021.
Update | 6:30 PM
It seems that Perez is mainly holding a question time with his fans to keep them informed of the latest developments. He is of course immediately asked about his future in
Formula 1 and a possible contract with Red Bull.
He cannot confirm anything about that yet, but he does report that if he does not come out with Red Bull, a sabbatical is his second option. For plan B, he takes a year off to spend time with his family and is fully focused on returning to F1 in 2022. He thinks there are still plenty of opportunities for that.
Press conference Sergio Perez
According to Ziggo Sport Pit reporter Jack Plooij, however, it could also be a press event intended primarily for the Mexican press, in which Perez won't make an important announcement. So it isn't yet clear what exactly will be discussed.
It seems likely that the press conference will be about his future in Formula 1. He was told in the middle of the season that, despite having a contract for 2021, he will have to make way for
Sebastian Vettel next year at Racing Point. The Silverstone based team will be known as
Aston Martin next year. At the moment there only very limited left, so there is a chance that he will either announce his departure or a sabbatical.
Update | Postponed until 18:10 GMT
The press conference is scheduled at 17:30 GMT and can be followed live below!
