Williams chief technical officer
Paddy Lowe, believes the team’s new line up of
Robert Kubica and
George Russell will be a good team.
Williams enter 2019 with an entirely new setup after
Lance Stroll moved to Force India and
Sergey Sirotkin left.
Russell is stepping up from Formula 2 whilst Kubica is returning following nine years out of the sport following a serious crash at the Ronde di Andora rally in 2011.
“I think this will be a fantastic combination with the rookie George [Russell] on the other side.” Said Lowe speaking to
RACER.
Lowe is optimistic about Kubica’s arrival revealing the mechanics described the Polish driver as a “proper driver”.
“Everybody loves Robert — in the office, in the garage.
“I remember when he first turned up the mechanics saying ‘Yeah, that’s a proper driver!’
“It’s really been terrific to have him working with us already, and he’s a great team member.”
Despite the optimism, the Brit revealed nobody really knows what will happen when Kubica steps back into the cockpit.
“Where it will go with performance, I think even Robert would say we don’t know.
“He’s very determined and a remarkable character to make this return.
“I think we all know why, it’s admirable for that.”
