During the Belgian Grand Prix, it rained briefly and the track was a bit wetter. Max Verstappen and the other drivers all stayed on slicks, but Verstappen personally experienced that the slightly wet track was treacherous. At Eau Rouge, Verstappen struggled briefly.
And that is not the least corner to make a mistake in. Verstappen was driving full speed up Eau Rouge/Raidillon when he found out it was a bit wet after all on the steep, slight S-curve uphill. The result was a small moment when Verstappen lost control of his RB19. Fairly quickly, the Dutchman got his car under control and continued his race. It was just a little too exciting, though.
After the race, he says of the moment: "The rain was just moving around on the track. Like sometimes it was increasing in other places, you know, from lap to lap [...] And I got there and it just caught me out. It was a bit more slippery than I thought it would be. So yeah, it was, I mean, it happens to you quickly. Yeah, try to correct it sometimes. Of course, it works, but sometimes it doesn't [...] It was not great."
Verstappen clarified his point: "Yeah, that's probably not the best place to go sideways, but luckily nothing happened. I mean, of course, also with the changes through there, you have a little bit more runoff, but it's still not a nice corner to have a moment." When Verstappen was asked what he was thinking at that moment, the Red Bull Racing driver did not give the full answer. Verstappen: "A swear word."
