McLaren has signed a multi-year sponsorship deal with Google. As a new official partner, the technology company will be featured on McLaren cars in Formula E and Extreme E starting in 2022.
Formula One teams are doing everything they can to compete for wins with big sponsorship deals. Zak Brown has proven to be a master at getting those deals in, because from a bare McLaren upon his arrival, the MCL36 for the 2022 season is full of stickers from their sponsors.
''We are absolutely delighted and proud to welcome Google to the McLaren Racing family. Google is a global leader in technology and has been a ground-breaking innovator in connecting people around the world. By integrating platforms like Android and Chrome across our operations, our team will be better supported to focus on driving performance. We’re looking forward to an exciting partnership that spans across Formula 1 and Extreme E,'' Brown let it be known in the team's statement.
"McLaren Racing represents the very best of what's possible on a racetrack across performance, inclusion and sustainability, and those are values we share at Google. We’re bringing more innovation to platforms, like Android and Chrome, and seamlessly connecting them to other Google services to optimize McLaren's race day performance,'' concludes Nicholas Drake, Google's marketing chief.
Google will have a prominent place on McLaren's car. The black airbox still remained conspicuously empty during the test days, but that top of the car now provides the space for the sponsorship of 'Android'. In addition, the hubcaps are painted in Google's colors. View photos of the new livery here:
