Much has been made of the
Monaco Grand Prix. Every year, the debate bubbles up whether the historic race should be removed from the
Formula 1 calendar.
Laurent Mekies thinks modifications to the Monaco circuit are fine, as long as the race remains on the calendar.
At last Friday's
press conference, the relationship between the
F1 calendar and the
Monaco Grand Prix briefly came up for discussion. Along with
Otmar Szafnauer of Alpine and Alessandro Alunni Bravi of
Alfa Romeo, Mekies answered questions on the subject.
Mekies satisfied with Monaco
"Personally I will probably refrain from touching the track layout, also for historical reasons and keeping very high character places like this one," said the
Ferrari man.
Mekies is also very appreciative of the changes made at the circuit in recent years. "Now it feels like a very comfortable place to work compared to what it was so I think you're right. We will expect tracks to bring improvements as Monaco is doing and it's very impressive to see how much effort has been put into it."
