Daniel Ricciardo failed to escape from Q1 during Sunday's qualifying session in Japan. The
Renault driver struggled to get the best out of the car in the opening session of the day. His teammate
Nico Hulkenberg only managed P15 after engine issues in Q2.
A frustrated Ricciardo spoke to Sky Sports and was very honest with his review.
"It is what it is, we didn't have much time to get it right, we just didn't. It was a little bit all over the place and not good enough. It has been such a short morning, I'll take some deep breaths and I have to recover. It is tricky, but the same for everyone else," Ricciardo said.
The Australian went on to confirm Renault made some changes that proved to be more significant than what was needed. During the session, those at Renault reported they struggled because of a lack of downforce.
"We made a small adjustment between first and second run. It changed the car quite a lot, and I didn't think we were asking for such a change," Ricciardo added.
