Force India have decided to still be named Force India in 2018. Well, the official team name is Sahara Force India F1 Team, but you know what I mean.
The Indian outfit has been playing around with the idea of changing team names for months, as a new name could better their global image and it would make them more attractive for sponsors.
One of the names that were being suggested was 'Force One F1', but this was denied by the Formula One, as the abbreviation of the team would be 'F1', just like the sport. The team had multiple names registered, but eventually chose to stick with Force India for 2018, and decide on a new name for next year. This is also because the rules don't allow a team to change its name during the course of a season.
Auto Motor und Sport noted that Force India's main sponsor BWT would be interested in being the title sponsor if Force India changes its name to something that's a little more global.
There are also reports that energy drink-brand Rich Energy would be interested in taking over the team and tieing its name to it, making it the second team that would be named after a fizzy drink. These reports, however, turned out to be made up by the British media. Rich Energy did say that they would be interested to sponsor the F1 in some kind of way, but a specific team was never named. No battle of the fizzy drinks then (for now!).
