After day 2 of the second test in Barcelona, Esteban Ocon believes that his Force India team are not far off Red Bull.
Frenchman Ocon had an impressive first season at Force India last year, helping the team to finish fourth in the constructors' championship, one spot behind Red Bull.
Now Ocon has his sights set higher, and is aiming to usurp Red Bull and get Force India into the top 3 constructors for the first time in their history.
The youngster expressed his pleasure at completing 130 laps during Wednesday's testing, telling the media: "It's what we needed, a clean day today. We did most of our programme and it will make us move forward. We understood plenty so there's plenty to analyse. We are quite happy with today."
Ocon finished 8th in the championship last season with 87 points, an impressive tally for someone in his first full season of Formula One.
He showed superb consistency to finish in the points in all but two races.
Ocon continued to say: "We will see where we are in Melbourne, thats the most important thing.
"Today was a good day, plenty of mileage under our belt and long runs look promising - not far off Red Bull I think so we are quite happy."
With Red Bull showing impressive pace in this second test, if what Ocon says proves to be true, we could see quite a battle on our hands for podiums, and who knows, we could even see Fore India add to their tally of one win in the sport.
