On this day in 2006, Fernando Alonso got his title defence off to the perfect start with victory in the opening race in Bahrain.
Michael Schumacher came second to set up the start of the title fight between the two drivers, which was ultimately won by Alonso after finishing either first or second in every race of the first nine.
Kimi Raikkonen completed the podium after an incredible drive from last on the grid.
Whilst one champion was defending his crown, another was just starting his career, as Nico Rosberg made his debut in the sport.
He qualified 12th and finished 7th, scoring points in his first race.
Rosberg also set the fastest lap of the race, becoming the youngest ever driver to set the fastest lap in a Formula 1 Grand Prix.
That record has since been broken by Max Verstappen.
