On this day in the year 2000, Jenson Button made his
Formula 1 debut at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.
Button was 20 years old at the time and drove for Williams alongside Ralf Schumacher.
On his first race, he qualified 21st and then subsequently retired from the race due to an engine issue.
It took six years for Britsh driver to win the first of his 15 race wins.
In 2009, driving for Brawn, Button went on to win the World Championship.
He retired at the end of the 2016 season as a McLaren driver despite racing at the 2017 Monaco Grand Prix in Fernando Alonso’s absence.
