Force India's Sergio Perez missed out on Q2 by a thousandth of a second yesterday and he was so desperate to make it to Q2, he even asked his team whether he could stay out for another lap.

The Mexican asked his team whether he could do one more lap, but Force India denied him that chance.

Once the driver returned to the pits, the team then decided against sending him back out for a second run.

The other drivers then improved their times and the Mexican driver slipped down the grid to P16 and Romain Grosjean set a better time by 0.001 seconds.

Perez described his team's decision as a "miscalculation" and doesn't put the sole blame on the team.

"I think we had a little miscalculation there with the tow effect," Perez explained to RaceFans.net. "I was two-tenths from (seventh) so the margin was really small.

"But at the same time, I should have done a better lap so we screwed up together. We'll look forward for tomorrow. I hope tomorrow we can minimise the damage."

Perez said that he was talking to the team about how he could do better when he realised that he was elimination-bound. "I was looking at people going green, green," Perez added. "And then I saw that we lost out by a millisecond. It was really unlucky.

"Today was a massive blow for myself and the team. Given how strong the pace of the car was the whole weekend. We definitely have the pace to be the best of the rest. It hurts, it hurts a lot."
