Sergio Perez had to start the Bahrain Grand Prix from the pit lane due to a technical problem on the warm-up lap. He then made up fifteen places in the race and eventually finished fifth. An excellent performance, but far from unique.
We do not even have to go far back in history. Even if we compare Perez's comeback with that of other drivers in F1 today, he is not yet in the top ten. Lewis Hamilton, who is sometimes said to win a lot because he always starts at the front, is in it three times
The most famous comeback race on this list, however, is that of Kimi Raikkonen. He won the 2005 Japanese Grand Prix after starting the race in seventeenth place. And that in a period where overtaking was anything but easy.
Perez's own win at the 2020 Bahrain GP would also fit into this list, were it not for the fact that the Mexican only dropped to last place after the race had already begun. This list only takes into account where a driver started the race.
