Sergio Perez surprisingly goes free after an incident in qualifying for the
Brazilian Grand Prix. While
George Russell,
Esteban Ocon and
Pierre Gasly received grid penalties, the Mexican remains without a grid penalty.
Perez will start Sunday's
Brazilian Grand Prix from ninth place. The Mexican did not have a happy qualifying session after slowing for yellow flags caused by
Oscar Piastri. A ninth place briefly looked set to become 11th with a stewards meeting but surprisingly Perez has been cleared.
Earlier, Russell, Ocon and Gasly did receive grid penalties for obstructing other drivers. The penalties are a consequence of a new rule from the
FIA that aims to ensure that the chaos in qualifying is reduced. The latter has not quite succeeded yet.
