The
Italian Grand Prix was an emotional rollercoaster. On the one hand, there was the dramatic crash between
Max Verstappen and
Lewis Hamilton, and on the other, there was the triumph for
McLaren, who pulled off a 1-2 with
Lando Norris and
Daniel Ricciardo. But who stood out the most today?
Who is the GPblog Driver of the Day?
The global
Formula 1 viewers were clear: they voted en masse for Ricciardo, who, thanks to his first win for McLaren, also took the honourable Driver of the Day title.
Valtteri Bottas, however, also received a large share of the votes. The Mercedes driver did a great job catching up from the last row of the grid and even managed to reach the podium thanks to a time penalty from
Sergio Perez.
Norris and Perez were also doing well
Pérez did not do badly either. He had to start from eighth place, but worked his way up to the front of the grid and reached the podium after the crash of Verstappen and Hamilton. He was forced to give that place away to Bottas, however, after he was given a time penalty for an alleged advantage he gained from leaving the track during the fight with the Finn.
Norris finished third in the Driver of the Day voting. He too drove a perfect race, holding off Hamilton in excellent fashion and providing his teammate with the necessary cover. He settled for second place, maximizing the result for McLaren.
