Max Verstappen may have driven a time that was more than enough for pole position in the
Belgian Grand Prix, but he will not start from that spot on Sunday. The
Red Bull Racing driver incurs a grid penalty due to replacing his gearbox and will therefore start from P6.
Provisional starting grid Belgian GP
This promotes
Charles Leclerc to pole position. On the iconic
Spa-Francorchamps circuit, the
Ferrari driver will have to try to keep off
Sergio Perez, who is next to him on the front row of the grid.
Behind him,
Lewis Hamilton,
Carlos Sainz and
Oscar Piastri will also benefit from the Dutchman's grid penalty. Hamilton will try to grab a podium finish from third, but it is not expected to be long before Verstappen appears in his mirrors.
Kevin Magnussen also got a three-place grid penalty during qualifying.
