Christian Horner saw his pupil
Max Verstappen take victory in a rather eventful race in Italy. The
Imola circuit was soaking wet when the race began, resulting in many spins, crashes and incidents. One of those incidents involved current champion
Lewis Hamilton, where he made a mistake and ended up in the gravel.
Luck
Despite this mistake Hamilton still managed to drive to second place in style. Something the
Red Bull Racing team boss also saw. His team could have gone further ahead of Mercedes.
In his column for Red Bull he says:
"It has to be said that Lewis was very lucky, and I'm sure he'll say the same." According to Horner, that mistake by Hamilton would normally have been the end of his chances: "The red flag, which was caused by his teammate, allowed him to drive himself back into the race after his own accident, when in fact he would have been ineligible for a podium place."
No mistakes
However, the 47-year-old Briton already knows what tactics to use to make things as difficult as possible for his compatriot Hamilton: "We will try to put as much pressure on Lewis in his title defence as we can. He made a fundamental mistake when he went off the track. It's about us not making mistakes."
