All in all, Renault boss Cyrit Abiteboul can be happy about his team's performance in the second week of testing in Spain, even though a gearbox issue cost the French team significant time on the last day.
On Friday, there were mixed judgements about Renault. While Carlos Sainz Jr. was only able to run for 45 laps, he was able to set the third quickest time of the day, only behind Kimi Raikkonen and Fernando Alonso, two former world champions. The chief of the team, Cyrit Abiteboul, thinks it was a good testing period all things considered, but doesn't really know where the team stands in the pecking order.
“We feel we have a good handle on the car, which is a step forward from last year, but we will need to wait until Australia to determine where we are in the order. It was frustrating to finish with so few laps on the board today, but the complexity of the cars means little issues can take time to be sorted out."
“Today we brought an encouraging test period to a close,” added Abiteboul. “We have been able to cover almost all our programme over the two weeks, with several notable achievements, including beating the record of laps around Barcelona for a day."
