Mercedes and Ferrari have already introduced the third spec of their respective engines, but Renault have revealed that they're not sure whether their Spec 3 will be ready this season, as there are still reliability issues
This news will come as good and bad news perhaps for Red Bull, as they might now have extra comfort in their decision to switch to Honda as engine partners in 2019. The bad news will of course be that they won't be as competitive this season.
Bob Bell, chief technical officer at Renault, says they won't be introducing the new spec until all problems are resolved.
"We could use them if we wanted to," Bell told Motorsport among other present media when asked about Renault's third spec.
"'For Renault, it's more important to finish races than to win a little bit of performance.
"We choose to play it safe for the rest of the season."
This probably means that Red Bull won't be challenging for wins any time soon. In midfield, this could also mean Haas could overtake the French team soon, should they get the most out of their Ferrari power unit.
