Formula One will have a "real problem" with having only a couple of manufacturers who have the power to win races if F1 don't act on it, according to Renault technical chief Nick Chester...
With the budget cap coming to the sport in 2021, this lad led to worries about bigger teams being able to find ways around the cap by collaborations with smaller teams.
This would mean that the spending would be done by the smaller sides and it would also gelp the manufacturer's performance progress.
Chester is adamant that this situation needs to be acted on quickly to prevent this.
"I think it is a real problem if that model continues into budget cap," Chester admitted to Motorsport.com. "I cannot see how a team can fight at the front without having one or two satellite teams.
"I think it is something really important that the FIA and F1 need to look at. If that model cannot be effectively got rid of, it will be a big problem and you will end up where, if you want to win, you have to be a manufacturer with two satellite teams or you don't think about winning. So, I think it has a lot of implications going forward."
