Daniel Ricciardo has announced that he wants his future to be sorted by the summer break, after the Hungarian Grand Prix, although he has suggested that it could be sooner now Red Bull’s engine sage is finally over.
Ricciardo is one of the most talented drivers on the grid and sits third in the World Championship having won two of the eight races so far.
The Australian has been linked with several teams, including Ferrari and Mercedes and even McLaren recently, with Red Bull also keen on keeping hold of their driver.
Ricciardo said: “They [Red Bull] want to start to move soon, I haven’t been pushed yet but there will be a bit of movement in the next week.
“Whether something gets put down on paper, discussions will start to ramp up the next seven days.”
Red Bull confirmed recently that they would be switching to Honda engines as of next season, and Ricciardo believes the deal could bring forwards any contract talks.
“Now that the team has got the engine deal sorted, ideally for them they want something sooner rather than later. Probably in the next two weeks would be ideal for them.
“For me personally, it would be nice – even if it’s a while away – to go into the summer break knowing what I’m doing so I can enjoy the summer.”
