Daniel Ricciardo is pleased that he can once again go home with points after the Austrian Grand Prix, but 'wouldn't go so far as happy'. That is the conclusion of the McLaren driver after another difficult weekend.
Ricciardo's ninth place at the Red Bull Ring marked only his fourth points finish of the season, at a circuit where McLaren have not historically been particularly strong. The Australian is therefore pleased with the result, but does not count himself rich, according to The Race. "I wouldn't go so far as to say I'm happy, but I'm pleased," the Australian summed up.
The McLaren driver continues to struggle with his car, which doesn't always do what he wants. "There were a few places where I couldn't really put the car where I wanted, so that was a little bit frustrating," he continues. Meanwhile, he continues to look for that little bit of extra speed he lacks to get involved in the battle for the midfield: "We should have those couple more tenths to put me in the fight with the Haases and Lando."
Lando Norris was also not entirely happy with his MCL36 in Austria. He was referring to his problems with the power unit on Friday, which caused him to miss out on important kilometres prior to qualifying. A five-second time penalty was added to that, but the Briton still managed a seventh place finish.
"The pace was reasonable, it was not an easy car to manage," concluded Norris. "If we could restart the weekend, we’d be a lot stronger and I think we could probably fight the Alpine. But because of the issues we’ve had, we’ve not scored as highly as we should."
