After finishing sixth and seventh in this morning’s practice sessions in Australia, Daniel Ricciardo admits that he and his Red Bull team need to produce more.
Ricciardo was off the pace of team mate Max Verstappen in both sessions and was even slower than Haas’ Romain Grosjean in FP2.
Ricciardo said: “The short runs, we still have a bit to find with the car, so that ultrasoft run on low fuel before the red flag – I had quite a lot of understeer.”
Ricciardo was on a his best lap of the day but had his time ruined by a red flag which came out for some wiring that had fallen onto the track.
However, despite missing out on setting a more competitive lap time, Ricciardo didn’t seem to care too much, saying: “I was not too disappointed to see the red flag, I don’t think the lap was that good.
“It was okay, it was not a bad day. The long runs were more representative, or better, I was probably happier with them.
“So I was a bit quicker than my soft time up until then (the red flag), but I was not going to jump to P1 or anything like that.
“So we still have a bit of work to do.”
