Nico Rosberg has said that Sebastian Vettel and Ferrari “needs to improve” in order for them to challenge Mercedes for both titles in 2019. Vettel and
Ferrari looked set to challenge and possibly win the drivers’ champions half-way through last season until a variety of errors from both sides cost them their lead in the standings.
2016 World Champion Rosberg reckons that the team need to avoid the mistakes that they made last year and be more consistent to knock Mercedes off the tope spot for the first time of the hybrid era.
Speaking to Sky Sports he said “He [Vettel] needs to improve and the team needs to improve overall, they just had too many mistakes last year because possibly they should have won it.”
“They've made some major changes. They've changed [former team principal Maurizio] Arrivabene and put in [Mattia] Binotto, so they've made a change in the highest position there.”
With
Kimi Raikkonen moving to
Alfa Romeo Racing it paved way for Ferrari to give the seat to
Charles Leclerc, after impressing with Sauber enough in his rookie season.
“Also Leclerc, that could also be a very, very positive dynamic - but it could also be negative and backfire. So it's going to be awesome to watch. They just need to step it up, but they can do it. It's going to be great to follow again.”
