Former Formula One world champion Nico Rosberg has said that Verstappen "showed a bit of Lewis Hamilton attitude" in Canada, as the Dutchman performs at his best when he's upset, much like Hamilton.
Verstappen came first in all three practice sessions before impressively qualifying third. He made a move on Bottas at the start for P2 but didn't get past, and he came close again at the end but just couldn't pull through. All in all, still an impressive weekend from the Dutchman, according to Rosberg.
"When Lewis is angry, he is at his best," Rosberg explained on his YouTube channel, talking about the Verstappen-Hamilton comparison.
"He channels it into an unbelievable performance and I think Verstappen had some of that this weekend, so he gained this extra focus from the word go.
"He was first all the way through [practice], great qualifying, and finished third.
"I think that was a really good weekend from him."
High praise from a former world champion. Verstappen deserves a bit of praise for his performance in Canada, certainly after all the criticism he's been receiving in the weeks before. The question now will be whether he can put up these performances consistently.
