Except for a one-off appearance in the Mercedes car,
George Russell has been parked at the back of the
Formula 1 grid in an underperforming
Williams car. Despite not scoring points, the Brit believes the
French Grand Prix was his "best race" for the
Williams team.
No DNF
Russell finished in P12, ahead of
Charles Leclerc's
Ferrari on merit. The 23-year-old gained two places during the race but it wasn't enough to score his first points for Williams. For just the 10th time in
Formula 1, no cars retired and Russell points to this in his interview with
Sky Sports. "I would go as far to say it was our best race. It's a shame nothing happened in front because 12th on merit is a good result. Really pleased with that," Russell said.
"It was really difficult. A couple of overtakes and did a good one on Tsunoda at the end which for us finishing ahead of these cars - the Alfa's, Ocon, Tsunoda. Overtaking him on track was massive and finishing 12th on merit."
