Despite recording his best qualifying session result in Monaco,
Carlos Sainz is left feeling "very frustrated" with himself. The
Ferrari driver qualified in fourth place while teammate
Charles Leclerc stormed to P1.
Strong Ferrari
The
Ferrari car is hooked up to the slow corners in Monaco and therefore the team are reaping the benefits. On Thursday, Leclerc and Sainz finished in the top two of the second free practice session. This gave the team hope, but Sainz couldn't match that result when it mattered in Q3.
"Definitely very frustrating. It's not like every day you get the chance to go for a pole lap around Monaco. And, to not have that opportunity in the second run is tremendously frustrating and as you can imagine today I am disappointed," Sainz told Sky Sports.
"I had the pace all weekend to be on the front row. I have to admit that this is one of the most frustrating moments as a racing driver. As a racing driver, it's hard to digest it because you never know when in the next five years of your life.
"There is not many chances that you can do in Q3 and put it on pole for Ferrari around Monaco. Tomorrow I feel like I have the pace to win if I am completely honest," Sainz concluded.
F1 should start implementing “Top Ten Shootouts” at certain tracks just like they do in a number of other categories of racing.
Q3 will have cars going out one at a time and have one flying lap to record their time.
It’s just the driver and car on the track. No external influences.
It’s also super trilling for fans.
poor sainz,
there is a much better, more comprehensive article on this on the f1 website.
carlos has been doing really really well and he is another guy to suffering as a result of this crash.
maybe the fia can extend the session for guys who end up getting burned by something like this ?
it's looking less and less likely that leclerc did this on purpose but the fia should at a minimum examine telemetry after something like this happens. carlos is one of three drivers who could possibly have taken pole at monaco this year.
No one is really noticing or give Carlos any credit. He has easily been the best of the drivers at new teams this year. Very impressed with him, but not the least bit surprised.
