Carlos Sainz can look back on a disappointing race. The Spaniard suffered damage to his front wing after a failed overtake on
Esteban Ocon, and as rain plagued the Monaco circuit, the
Ferrari driver, driving on medium, spun.
Frustrating weekend
Sainz started in fourth place, but he did not settle for this in the opening stages. The 28-year-old driver was too eager, damaging his front wing. The pit-stop strategy was not good either.
Charles Leclerc's teammate went from hard to medium tyres, but the rain forced him to go in again for intermediate tyres. The Spaniard was, therefore, frustrated, according to
Formula1.com:
"It was two critical pitstops, one we did it too late and one we did too early, but that’s Monaco. A bit of a lottery, and today maybe we didn’t get it right."While Sainz was still on mediums, he spun off at Mirabeau. This dropped him back to eighth place. According to the
Ferrari driver, a better result was in the cards:
"I felt like today the pace was there. And [there’s] probably a bit of frustration we didn’t get the other calls right."
